Counterfeit versions of drugs appear occasionally in the United States, sometimes as a result of drug shortages. Providers may be forced to scramble to find drugs that unexpectedly become in short supply.
Size gives Borgess Health pharmacists many more options to avoid questionable drug alternatives.
Because Borgess Health is part of the largest nonprofit health system in America–Ascension Health–this allows Borgess pharmacists more flexibility. During unexpected shortages, we can share available drugs in a system with 1,400 locations in 21 states and the District of Columbia.
Phil Early, Director, Borgess Pharmacy, was recently interviewed by Richard Piet, of WKZO, on combating counterfeit drugs.
