“Weight loss may be one factor when we select the winning candidate but most importantly we want to help someone who has the initiative to make the transforming effort to a healthier lifestyle through exercise and nutrition training,” said Jennifer Query, Manager of the Borgess Athletic Performance Program.

“Many people don’t exercise because it’s difficult, uncomfortable, boring or even painful,” said Query who is the former strength and conditioning coach for Western Michigan University’s women’s basketball and men’s ice hockey teams. “We want to teach the winning candidate many movement patterns that their body and their brain respond to so they can learn personally enjoyable exercise forms that pay off with health improvements.”

The 12-week extreme fitness makeover begins at the Borgess Health & Fitness Center on Wednesday, October 12.

Acupuncture is now offered at the Borgess Health & Fitness Center by licensed acupuncturist Paul Enright, MSOM, Lic Acu.

In addition to providing relief for many other conditions, acupuncture can help alleviate insomnia.  Over time, insomnia, which may affect as many as six out of ten adults at some point, can contribute to serious health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression, a weakened immune system and even obesity.

Acupuncture addresses the root causes of insomnia, restoring balance to the body and calming the nervous system – all without the unpleasant side effects often associated with medication therapies.

Enright received his Masters of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from the Midwest College for Oriental Medicine in Chicago.  An internship at Gqang Zhou University in China provided him an opportunity to learn from professionals who had been successfully performing acupuncture for many years.

Enright joined Borgess in 2003.  He is certified by the National Certification Commission For Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine.
